When I was really young, my dentists hated me because I never wanted to brush my teeth. That minty taste was downright disgusting to me, and two or three minutes was far too long for my attention span. But then, at 10 years old, I had to have a slew of cavities filled at once and I was not given enough novocaine. I’ve been a stickler for clean teeth ever since just to avoid that ever happening again. But no matter how well I stick to my twice-daily dental routine (with flossing!), my dentist can always pinpoint spots I need to brush better. So, being as extra and bullheaded as I am, I upgraded my old-school brush to the Oral-B iO electric toothbrush — undoubtedly, doctor Lee is going to be blown away at my next appointment.
This is not your average electric toothbrush — not by a long shot. There’s a reason the whole kit — including the brush, three replaceable brush heads, a charger, and a travel case — costs a whopping $300. The iO toothbrush can rotate between several different cleaning settings (sensitive, whiten, gum care, intense, and super sensitive) and times how long you spend brushing your teeth in a single session. Its goal is for you to brush for two whole minutes every single time and will “score” your brushing time with a frowny or smiley face, shown on the brush’s LED screen. In other words, this toothbrush will judge you, and that’s the exact type of motivation someone like me needs to keep their shit together.
