Bolstering your own self-esteem isn’t always easy, but Reddit has proven once again just how important it is to try. On September 2, Reddit user Rebecca Bauristhene posted a selfie to the MakeupAddiction subReddit to show off her makeup and wrote, “I’m not a very big fan of my face, but here’s a wee soft glam for work.” Hundreds of people have already swarmed to comment on the post with the goal of making sure she’s aware of how pretty and talented they think she is.
“Wait. You’re not a fan of your clear skin, perfect eyebrows, sultry brown eyes, kind smile, amazing lips, perfect nose, and wrinkle-free perfect face?” one of the posts 300+ commenters says. Another writes: “Girl you have beautiful skin complexion AND texture, kind eyes, A1 eyeshadow blending technique, and a perfectly symmetrical wing. Get outta here with self-negativity girl bc plenty of people hope the good ones will fail.”
Bauristhene tells Allure that she wasn’t at all expecting the outpour of supportive comments she received on the post. “I posted it because I was honestly feeling down about myself in general that day and thought that slapping on a bit of makeup might revive a little light back into myself,” she recalls. “These last few weeks I hadn’t felt beautiful within myself, and I usually do, but I never expected people to respond in such a manner; I was brought to tears.”
