When we chatted over Zoom, Alicia Yoon, Peach & Lily founder and licensed aesthetician, stressed that glass skin isn’t just about chasing glow, but about protecting your skin against environmental stressors, including blue light, UV rays, and pollution, which means replenishing it with hydrating and anti-inflammatory ingredients throughout the day.
Upon first glance, the ingredient list reads like that of a heavy-duty moisturizer. Cucumber water is the calming base ingredient which, Yoon, who has dealt with severe eczema in the past, says can be misted often without irritating your skin. Another star ingredient is reishi mushroom, which draws water from the environment to your skin, says Yoon. And its beta-glucans are “a type of natural sugar for moisturization and anti-inflammatory properties,” cosmetic chemist Ginger King tells Allure.
The mist also comes loaded with antioxidant-rich peach extract, calming centella asiatica, brightening licorice and lotus root, and skin-barrier-fortifying ceramides and vitamin E. The prized ingredient, however, is a “plant-based silicone alternative” derived from burdock root, bamboo stem, and lotus root extracts for a bouncy finish without clogging pores, which silicones oftentimes do.
“These are water-soluble extracts to moisturize and brighten skin,” King explains. I personally dislike silicones in beauty products (primers are a common example), and I can attest that this mist doesn’t have that film-like, slippery finish typically associated with silicones. In other words, after applying, my skin still feels like skin.
