If for some reason I was only allowed to keep a handful of makeup products for the rest of my life, a quality highlighter would undoubtedly be one of my essentials. A dewy glow has been a staple of my so-called personal brand for years, and because of that, I consider glimmering cheekbones the proverbial cherry on top of any makeup look. My standards for what makes a highlighter great, however, are very high — but Floss’s Quartz Pressed Highlighter pushes all the right buttons for me.
When it comes to highlighter, I like to look shimmery but not so much that it looks like I glued glitter directly to my face. Enough to attract attention without blinding passersby. That’s exactly what Quartz does with its pressed-powder formula. My favorite shade, Sunlit, looks champagne in the pan, but it transforms into a subtle gold hue once applied to the skin.
The way that Quartz walks the line between attention-grabbing and overwhelming isn’t its only winning factor. Because this powder is pressed down tight, it’s virtually impossible to overdo it on highlighter (which, even for me, is possible). Because the formula is buildable, it’s totally up to me to decide just how much or how little shimmer I want on my face.
To apply this highlighter, I use a pointed, fluffy makeup brush that I swirl into the pan before sweeping across my cheekbones, down the bridge of my nose, and on my Cupid’s bow. Just one pass with a powder-coated brush delivers a barely-there glow that’s perfect for daily wear. If I’m going somewhere that calls for a little more impact, I’ll just repeat the process for a slightly brighter highlight.
If this highlighter can meet (and surpass) this beauty editor’s intense standards, it’s sure to become one of your favorites. You’ll find the Floss Quartz Pressed Highlighter in our August 2020 Allure Beauty Box.
