Insecure star Yvonne Orji won best hair at Sunday night’s 2020 Emmy Awards — well, if you ask us, that is. The 36-year-old American-Nigerian actor, who’s nominated for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for her role as Molly on the HBO hit series, debuted a raised fist symbol shaved into the side of her head in honor of the Black Lives Matter movement. And the look is nothing short of award-worthy.
The powerful design was created by men’s grooming specialist Mickey West-Potts, who posted the look on Instagram with a sweet caption: “Had fun hooking my girl @yvonneorji with this design …she looks amazing for the #Emmys2020 ❤️.”
Monday, September 21 kicks off our week-long 2020 Best of Beauty virtual event series! To join us, RSVP here before it’s too late to enjoy tutorials and panels featuring some of the best experts in the industry, such as Justine Marjan, Priscilla Ono, and more.
Orji also shared a photo of the iconic hair look, along with an equally iconic caption: “NUFF✊🏾SAID🖤#Emmys2020.” In terms of who actually styled Orji’s hair for the event, that would be hair go-to girl Mary Daniels. They went for a fresh, no-frills look to let the BLM design do all the talking.
Of course, we’re not the only ones obsessed with Orji’s Emmys look. She’s already received a well-spring of positive comments on her post, with folks leaving messages like: “Queen! 👑 👑 👑,” “ITS THE FIST FOR ME🙌,” and “When you go to the Emmys looking like an award!!!! Yasssss.”
As for makeup, Drini Marie gave Orji red lips that matched her gorgeous gown and kept the rest of the look sophisticated and simple with black liner, lush lashes, and radiant skin. Everything about awards season be totally different this year, but stars like Orji (and their statement-making moments, speeches, and looks) prove it’s still worth watching.
