We love a steal here at Allure, but every so often, we like to splurge a little — especially when we’re spending on hair tools. Sure, there are plenty of affordable flatirons, blow-dryers, and curlers out there that work brilliantly, but when we’re looking for something that has high-end technology and makes the styling process easier, well, we don’t mind shelling out the extra cash.
One of our favorite pricey tools? The two-time Best of Beauty-winning Dyson Airwrap. Since the brand released its ubiquitous supersonic blow-dryer, it’s been blessing the streets with some seriously innovative hair-styling tools like its Corrale cordless straightener, and of course, the one-of-a-kind Airwrap, which are beloved by hair pros the world over. We can’t tell you how many times we’ve been backstage at a fashion show and seen Dyson tools in action.
So, why our obsession with the Airwrap? The tool uses the coanda effect, which is what happens when air moves at high speeds inside round objects, creating a vortex. This coanda effect not only gives you a salon-quality blowout, but it is super satisfying to watch, especially when you’re using the curling barrels. The air from the tool sucks your hair to spiral around the barrel, creating curls without having to use a ton of heat. The complete set comes with the device itself and six attachments — the 1.2-inch wide Airwrap barrels, 1.6-inch wide Airwrap barrels, a firm smoothing brush, a soft smoothing brush, a round volumizing brush, and a pre-styling dryer.
On September 15, Dyson announced the Airwrap’s latest attachments: .8 inch barrels, which are longer and thinner than the originals to create tighter curls. Also on tap are the new versions of the 1.2 inch and 1.6 inch barrels, which are as wide as the originals, just a bit longer, as well as a small round volumizing brush better for shorter hairstyles, such as bangs and bobs.
If you’re looking to spend a pretty penny on yourself, the Airwrap comes at a hefty price of $550, but know that it may give you the best hair of your life. If you already own the tool (lucky you) and are interested in the six new attachments, they are available now on dyson.com for $40 each.
