If there’s one celebrity that’s on top of the tattoo game, that’s Demi Lovato. Much like Rihanna, Kehlani, and Ariana Grande, Lovato has been growing her ink collection consistently over the last few years and it looks like the “In The Mirror” singer has just added a new design to her neck.
On September 2, Lovato posted a series of two new pictures to her Instagram account and, past her striking diamond earring and stunning floral dress, what caught our eye was the new ink on the right side of her neck.
It’s hard to tell from the pictures, but the new tattoo appears to be a hyperrealistic butterfly done in black and white ink, which ties in nicely with Lovato’s existing collection. The new design is dainty but substantial in size — it’s clearly visible on the selfie and the second, full-body shot that Lovato posted.
Butterflies are a common motif in tattoo art and they hold a bunch of different meanings, from rebirth to faith. Given how personal the meanings behind Lovato’s growing tattoo collection are, we are sure there’s a great story behind this one too.
Lovato has not talked about the new ink explicitly, so we don’t know which artist is behind the design but we do know this is her third neck tattoo in less than a year. Back in December 2019, LA-based artist Dr. Woo unveiled Lovato’s first neck tattoo, the word survivor, on his Instagram. Just days later, Alessandro Capozzi revealed Lovato’s super detailed take on the “Divine Feminine” on the back of her neck, a design that took over eight hours to finish.
It’s unclear when Lovato got the new design, but judging by her recent posts, it must have been fairly recently. The tattoo was noticeably absent from her anniversary snaps, recent date night pics, as well as her engagement announcement with Max Ehrich. That is, assuming it’s not temporary!
