As my mother always said, pamper the skin on your body with just as much TLC as the skin on your face. Keeping that in mind, I’ve learned to appreciate the power of a rich, buttery lotion, and the long-term benefits of an exfoliated, hydrated (and sun-protected) body. Nothing irked me more than rushing out the door only to look down and see dry, chalky knees and elbows. The goal is always baby-soft, moisturized skin that can complement my year-round olive-toned complexion, which only glows more come summer. But moisturizer can only do so much work on its own. This is where the Biologique Recherche Lotion P50 Corps comes into play.
After making the switch from face scrubs to chemical exfoliants, I remembered my mother’s mantra and began to look into chemical body exfoliants as well. I have to admit, I was more than a little skeptical about a product claiming to exfoliate, tone, and hydrate all in one bottle (not to mention the liquid consistency is that of a toner, not your typical creamy lotion). Too good to be true, I thought, but the ingredient list proved me wrong. It’s made with lactic acid and salicylic acid to slough off dead skin cells, along with glycerin, which moisturizes the skin.
Although the first sniff reminded me of the apple cider vinegar sitting in my pantry (yet to be used), the scent does not linger. The spray bottle made the application process easy in those hard-to-reach areas. After shaving, I spritz one spray in each area I want to treat, using my hands to massage the product into my skin until it’s fully absorbed. Moments after the product sinks in, the scent fades, and a gleaming radiance is the only thing left on my body — no additional moisturizer is needed (but to each their own). As tempting as it may be to reach for this liquid gold every day, I treat my skin to a few sprays every three days or so, leaving it up to indulgingly rich butters to hydrate my skin on those off days.
After one week of consistent use along my legs and the back of my upper arms (where my keratosis pilaris likes to hide), my skin began to smooth out, revealing a healthy-looking glow. I’m not the only one who loves applying this miracle spray — Allure editors can’t stop raving about it, too, which is why we’ve awarded it with a Best of Beauty Award for 2020.
