I used to low-key be afraid of concealers, especially full-coverage concealers. I used to think that they were only for full-on, glam, heavy makeup looks. I used to be all wrong, but not anymore. For years, I was exclusively a foundation guy. I love using foundation — it’s great — but recently, I pulled a complete 180, and have found myself reaching for concealer more and for foundation considerably less. Who could have guessed?
I prefer to cover dark circles and hyperpigmentation in my eye area, maybe dot a little concealer on any blemishes, and then just let my skin rock. Concealer gives me a sort of (forgive me for using this phrase) “no-makeup look.” Make no mistake: I am always wearing a lot of makeup, and I want anyone who sees me to know it. But underneath it all, I want my skin to look like skin — not a wall of makeup. If I can cover what I want to with concealer while letting the rest of my skin breathe, it’s pretty much a win-win, and that’s my routine right now.
Instead of being afraid of full-coverage foundations, I’ve now embraced them with open arms. I’ve gathered up a bunch of the best, with very different formulas, and I’m about to break down just what makes them great, unique, and worth your money, as well as a place at your vanity. No matter if you like a heavy makeup look or a light face, there is definitely something in here for you.
